The 4th annual Carriacou Maroon & String Band Festival will take place from April 26-28, 2013.
Launched in 2010, the Carriacou Maroon Music Festival showcases Grenada’s African and European heritage. It is a 3-day event comprising Big Drum Nation Dance, String Band Music, Shakespeare Mas, Quadrille and African Dances, blended with a touch of Calypso, Reggae, Soul and Blues. Participating bands are not only from the three sister islands Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique, but also from other Caribbean countries such as St. Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, Cuba, British Virgin Islands, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Guadeloupe, and Suriname. In addition, the Festival features traditional Maroon ‘smoke food’ cooked in large iron pots on open fires.
